I am a born-again Christian and my spiritual citizenship is in heaven. I am also an American and my earthly citizenship is in the United States. As a Christian, the Holy Bible, the inspired, infallible, inerrant Word of God is my guide. As an American, my guide is the Constitution of the United States.
The United States is not now, nor has it ever been a Christian nation. From it's beginning, it has been a nation of free people. More fundamental to the function of this great nation is the principle of freedom, not Christianity. As a nation of free people, Christianity, as a spiritual way of life, can thrive, but as a religiously Christian nation, freedoms are curtailed by legalism.
