Camp Theme: Truth or Consequence
Steve's Subject Title (consistent with camp theme): Calvinism: Truth or Erroneous Doctrine and its Consequences?
Steve writes: Do you understand what is meant by "God's irresistible grace?" Mankind's "total depravity?" "Unconditional election?" "Limited atonement?" "Perseverance of the saints?" These are terms and phrases that have important ramifications which influence the spiritual paradigm of believers and unbelievers all over the world to a greater or lesser degree. How one understands such doctrines and concepts as the essence of God, the free will of man, predestination and election, God's purpose in human history, God's grace, what is required for salvation, assurance of salvation, and the eternal security of the believer (just to name a few) are at issue. This series will provide the attendee with a brief overview of the historical origins as well as the major doctrinal tenets of this prominent force within Christianity. Examples of significant Scripture passages, the interpretation of which is impacted by this school of interpretation, will be examined. The consequences of the errors of Calvinistic theology will be interwoven into the presentation as well as summarized at the end of each session to include practical illustrations of how this theology affects the believer's life and testimony.
